Design Inspiration
BENTO Sofa draws inspiration from classic German Bauhaus design, reinterpreting its minimalist steel structure in a contemporary way. Clean geometry, crisp lines and balanced proportions create a simple, enduring visual order. Soft, generous cushions are supported by a slim steel frame, combining spacious comfort with a light, almost floating appearance. BENTO was also the first sofa series designed by designschneider for GRADO, beginning an ongoing collaboration. Since then, designschneider has created further collections for GRADO, including the Beos and Vanillar series, continuing its exploration of proportion, structure and user experience.

BENTO is defined by a clean metal frame, where crisp horizontal and vertical lines contrast with generous upholstery. Rather than hiding the structure, the design makes it part of the sofa’s visual identity. This balance of rigidity and softness gives the restrained form a clear and memorable presence. A generous seat and full upholstery bring a relaxed level of comfort to BENTO’s clean, structured form. It works naturally for reception and conversation while remaining comfortable for longer stays, striking a considered balance between a professional appearance and an inviting seating experience.
From the front and sides to the back, BENTO maintains a complete and considered appearance, so it does not need to sit against a wall. It can work naturally in lobbies, open reception areas or at the centre of a space, offering greater freedom for furniture planning and subtle spatial zoning. Clean geometry, balanced proportions and understated materials give BENTO a contemporary character without tying it to one particular interior style. From premium offices and boutique hotels to commercial, art and residential spaces, it integrates easily into different environments and broader furniture schemes.
Single- and multi-seat versions share the same design language and can be configured around space, capacity and function. From individual lounging and one-to-one conversations to larger reception settings and grouped arrangements, the series maintains a consistent and cohesive visual identity.
